President Rodrigo Roa Duterte led the 19th Founding Anniversary of the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) at the Rizal Hall of Malacañan Palace.
In his remarks, the President shared how his local government acted on crime and corruption, particularly the illegal drugs trade, when he was mayor of Davao City. Now as Chief Executive, he reiterated his stance on the administration’s thrust to address the matter.
Showing an updated list of local government officials and members of the uniformed men who are suspected to be illegal drugs users and pushers, President Duterte warned all those involved to stop. “Do not destroy the young of the Filipino, because ‘yon ang aming kayamanan,” he said.
Futhermore, the President expressed his support to Bureau of Customs (BOC) Chief Nicanor Faeldon regarding the agency’s ongoing congressional hearings on the smuggled illegal drugs from China. “I stand by him… Nalusutan lang siya kasi lahat diyan sa Customs, corrupt,” he said.
During the event, the President administered the joint oath taking of the VACC Board of Trustees for 2017-2018, Advisers and Legal Counsels. An awarding ceremony also followed for the recipients of the VACC Major Awards as Pillars of Criminal Justice System for 2016-2017.
The VACC is a non-profit and non-government organization advocating for a crime and corruption-free Philippines. It assists crime victims by providing paralegal counseling.
